Death Toll Rises as Indonesia Continues Search for Landslide Victims

(MENAFN) The death toll from a landslide in West Java, Indonesia, has risen to 64, as rescue teams continue efforts on the eighth day to locate 16 people still missing, according to reports on Saturday.

Four additional bodies were recovered from the site, bringing the confirmed fatalities to 64, while approximately 16 people remain unaccounted for, said Ade Dian Permana, head of the Bandung Search and Rescue Agency.

The ongoing search operation involves the use of tracker dogs and heavy equipment, with around 3,675 personnel deployed to the affected area.

To date, 49 bodies have been identified and returned to their families, and 75 people have been rescued safely.

The landslide hit a village in West Bandung Regency last Saturday, burying dozens of homes under mud and debris. Rescue teams continue to operate in the area, navigating challenging terrain to recover victims and provide aid.
